AI Search / GEO

What Is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?

GEO is the practice of making useful web content easier for generative search systems to access and interpret. It does not give website owners control over AI answers or citations. Most practical work overlaps with good SEO and clear publishing.

Start with a source worth understanding

A landscaping company should state its service area, services, process and contact details. A phrase such as 'we create excellence' supplies little context. 'We install interlocking patios in Markham' is specific and testable. Add project examples only when they are real.

Make meaning explicit

Use descriptive headings, direct answers and appropriate internal links. Organization or service markup can clarify information already visible on the page. Structured data is not a special requirement for AI search and cannot compensate for an unclear offer.

Measure readiness and outcomes separately

A readiness audit can flag missing page signals. It cannot establish whether ChatGPT cited your business. Track search impressions, referral visits and qualified enquiries over time, and record the date and scope of each change.

Does GEO replace SEO?

No. Crawlability, useful content and clear site structure remain relevant. Treat GEO as part of Search Visibility rather than a separate publishing system or a reason to create near-duplicate pages.
